Progress During the 2017-2019 Biennial Budget

Ever wonder if Superior Days make a difference?

The short answer is definitively: yes!

  • Next Generation 911: WMTV reports on the $6.7 million included in the new biennial budget to developed enhanced 911 services.  911 will move to digital and interoperable systems across the State of Wisconsin.  In addition, a new oversight committee has been named for 911 services, which have been previously overseen by the Department of Administration. “The current state budget includes the E-911 funding that we lobbied for during Superior Days.  This is a huge win for us and all E-911 centers statewide.  Our efforts were received well and had a substantial impact on the inclusion of the funding in the state budget,” stated Keith Kesler, Director of Emergency Management for Douglas County.
  • Exposition Districts and Local Option Sales Tax for Roads: Discussion about authorizing the expansion of exposition districts to mid-market communities so Better City Superior could move forward, and local road funding options that included a local sales tax option were both discussed as Joint Finance Committee met and moved on final budget recommendations.  Unfortunately, no local tax requests were approved by JFC as the final budget proposal was advanced to both chambers.
